This just in (courtesey of hypebot and @suffolkandcool). Got to be the saddest news of 2010 so far. Let’s hope there’s another avenue for aspiring artists soon….

Jamendo, which made available tens of thousands of free tracks licensed through one of several Creative Commons licenses or the Free Art License is changing course under new ownership.

“After months of uncertain search for a new investor, the company has finally been purchased by one of its clients.” company founder Patrick Haour told Hypebot. “The .com website will keep on existing, but the main focus from now on is on background music licensing”.  This paid portion of Jamendo has previously been known as Jamendo.pro.

“Only a very small team has been maintained to keep things running,” said the talented Haour, who will be leaving the company on March 1st and already contemplating his options.

Well according to Gabor over at Electrical Language, who has it on good authority from Dave Pearson that my “ravings over too much ale and reggae” can be heard in Canberra.

Strewth!  Can you have too much ale and reggae?

We now have two dub communities. ReggaeDubWise is back online, thanks to some rethinking by Carl, who’s been accepted into to a cancer program.  We all hope that this works out for him!

And thanks to Gadman, we still have our new DubArk, so all the reggae tribe can be saved 2 by 2.  Irie!

Jan 142010

It’s been confirmed that the ReggaeDubWise.com community has closed down.  This is a real shame, not just for the listeners of my podcasts, who have enjoyed the music, not just for the dubsters that have used the community for sharing, improving and help each other with their music, but also for the Carl Horton, and Rob Connelly who have given so much to make it work.

Carl is suffering from cancer and Rob has lost a close friend, a relationship and even his home during 2009.  Regardless of your faith or your views, please spare a thought for these guys today and pray that 2010 will be a better year for them.

Jan 012010

I’ve just calculated the downloads for all my podcasts for 2009.  It’s over 230,000, which is excellent. It means that more people have heard more of the great artists I have the pleasure of playing and promoting on the show.

When I started podcasting in January 2006 I really didn’t think I’d be still at it today. I didn’t think there was enough great music out there to keep me interested. How I was wrong. There are now more netlabels than ever and more great music released every day.

So, if you’re an artist that I’ve played in the last 4 years, thank you for allowing me to play your music. If you’re a listener, thank you for downloading and (hopefully) enjoying what you hear. Here’s to 2010 being ther best year ever for netlabels, artists, podcasters and listeners everywhere!

ps. I keep all the monthly data here if you’re interested in numbers!

Machdose podcast, featuring AMP podcaster, RolandVery nice to see fellow AMP podcaster, Roland, from Machdose, bring his selections to Phlow Magazine’s Advent Calendar.

Especially like the downtempo track “Cotacachi!”, by Nuuro. Really Haunting!

Catching The WavesExcellent track “While She Sleeps (Morning Edit)” , by The Lights Galaxia, is the best track IMHO, from Catching The Wave’s selection from Phlow Magazine’s Advent Calendar today.

Dec 102009

Voide - Red Turns To BlueI’ve been a fan of Dave Almgren (aka Voide) for quite a few years now. It’s around this time of year he comes up with a new album and he’s doing it again with “Red Turns To Blue“, which should hit the streets in January 2010 at the latest.

Once again Dave teams up with vocalists Suzie Electric and Marie Craven (aka Pixieguts).

I hope to bring you some tracks on PC Podcast soon!

MasayukiBlogger of the Music Forest, from Japan, Masayuki, gives us his Netlabel selections for 2009 from Phlow’s Advent Calendar today.

Some rather interesting “chiptune” stuff as you might expect from a Japanese source, plus some “game boy dub” (dubstep?) from quarta330 which is quite excellent.

Unfortunately archive.org is down as I write this, so a lot of the links are down. Netlabel FAIL!

Dec 052009

Michael GregoireMichael Gregoire pushes all the right buttons from the start when he includes Jamendo favourites Juanitos and The Diablo Swing Orchestra in his Phlow-Magazine Advent Calendar selection.

So it was great to find some golden nuggets that I’ve missed over the year – especially Russian Pop Duo Muha and Nashville band Paper Navy.

I wonder what tomorrow’s selection will be?

In addition to starting he works with his project Kreislauf he works with N0theen and netaudio.blogspot.

Some interesting dubstep selections from the 20/twelve Dubstep netlabel as well as reference to the excellent Budabeats and Acroplane, who of course, you’ve heard tracks from on my podcasts.
